The Spring 2024 issue of the Quail Times, the newsletter for the Indian Creek Focus Area is out and contains hunt data from the 2023-2024 hunting season. This past season shows a decrease in number of hunts and hunter hours compared to the previous season, the first under the new regulations that limited quail hunting to 10 days during the season.
The article supplies data for the most recent five seasons, but when making comparisons, remember that the first three seasons shown in the table represent voluntary data by hunters. Only when the regulations were changed heading into the 2022-2023 seasons did it become mandatory for hunters to report data, so this is not an apples to apples comparison.
Covey flushes were down, no surprise with the reduction in hunts and hunting hours. Quail harvested remained consistent, however, which points to better shooting and possibly better dog work.
