Learn to Burn Field Day

The South Carolina Forestry Commission, in conjunction with natural resource organizations and other partners, will conduct a prescribed fire demonstration and training session Jan. 25 in Andrews. The workshop is geared toward landowners with low to moderate burning experience, but all are welcome.

Participants will:

•learn why it is important to burn your woods;

•learn proper pre-planning and post-burn follow-up;

•discuss liability issues;

•view/discuss different burning techniques;

•have the opportunity to ask questions of experienced professionals;

•learn about opportunities for additional knowledge.

Attendees are encouraged to wear non-synthetic field clothing/boots, gloves and eye protection and will be required to keep a safe distance from the fire. Attendees should expect a variety of weather conditions, cold temperature and smoke.

* All attendees will be asked to fill out a waiver for the workshop during registration.

** Attendees will be notified 1 day prior to the Learn To Burn Field Day if the weather is not favorable. The alternate/rain date is Feb. 1, 2024.
